Who can receive a Windmill Wish?
Children being treated for an ongoing, long-term liver condition/illness, aged 0-16, and/or a child that is pre or post-transplant - providing that the transplant is/was a liver transplant. In some circumstances, family members/guardians of the child can also benefit from the same wish (for example a day out for all the family). Applicants must be UK residents and have been resident in the UK for the past 12 months.
Who can refer the child/family?
Parents or legal guardians, healthcare professionals and close friends (with knowledge of the child’s medical condition/illness) can nominate a child (and their family) to receive a Windmill Wish.
This is providing that the child’s family are aware that you are contacting us and giving us their details.
Please note that upon receiving the referral we will contact the child's parent/guardian directly and therefore, by completing and sending this form, you are confirming that they have prior knowledge of this matter. By submitting the referral you are confirming that the parent/guardian has agreed to be contacted directly by us.
How does our application process work?
First, we ask that you complete the below form to refer a child. Upon receiving the referral George’s Windmills will contact the child’s parent/guardian directly to discuss how we can grant a Windmill Wish.
Windmill Wishes are granted on a one-time only basis.
We would require information on the child’s long-term medical condition and family life. Please note that all information given is treated with the strictest confidence.
Before we grant any Windmill Wish we would ask for information regarding the child’s illness, as determined by a medical professional. We would, at some point, require a signed letter (or an email) from a healthcare professional who is directly involved in the child’s ongoing care to confirm their liver-related medical diagnosis.
Is there any other things I should be aware of before applying?
- Only one wish will be granted per child. A previous wish cannot have been granted by George’s Windmills.
- Wishes must be based within the UK.
- Wishes are for the child. We will not supply families with cash grants or cover the cost of building works or expensive items for other members of the family/household.
- Expensive electronic items will be granted at the charity’s discretion depending on the cost.
- We reserve the right to decline a wish if we feel that that requests are excessive or not at the benefit of the child.
